The future of teeth whitening
A treatment endorsed by the world's top dentists, setting a new standard for smile care.
How does teeth whitening work?
To understand how BetterSmile whitens your teeth, you must first understand how teeth are stained.
Disclaimer! Not all teeth are born white. However, all teeth are prone to staining and discoloration from the various pigments and natural dyes humans ingest. These pigments cling onto your teeth and can be very tough to remove. You might have heard of the two most common methods to lift these stains – physical removal and chemical bleaching.
Physical removal combats surface level staining. They work by using abrasive substances that scrub away pigments attached to the surface of your teeth. Chemical bleaching targets superficial stains and pigments embedded in the tooth enamel. Its ability to target pigments lurking beneath the enamel makes it the most effective way to whiten teeth.

So, how does chemical teeth whitening work?
Yes, it’s science but it matters.
Chemical bleaching works by oxidising organic pigments. In simple terms, these bleaching agents change the molecular structure of organic pigments. As a result, these pigments lose their ability to hold colour, which gives your teeth a whiter appearance.
Before this, the most common and effective bleaching agent is hydrogen peroxide. Now, we introduce to you Phthalimidoperoxycaproic Acid (or PAP for short).

Now, how is BetterSmile whitening different?
This really matters. Listen up.
PAP and hydrogen peroxide both work by oxidising organic pigments to destroy their ability to hold colour.
The downside of peroxide-based whitening is that it releases free radicals during the oxidising process. Free radicals are bad news because they are the main culprit to sensitivity, irritation, and the demineralisation of your teeth.
PAP is different though because it oxidises organic pigments without releasing any free radicals. This makes for a safer way to bleach your teeth without any of the unwanted side effects.

Your first time hearing about PAP?
You are probably wondering, “if PAP is so great, why haven’t I heard of this?”.
Well, dentists have stuck to peroxide-based whitening methods because they are professionals. They are armed with the intricate skills and specific tools required to limit the undesirable side effects of free radicals. Hence, the hefty price-tag. However, the same cannot be said about at-home peroxide products. Particularly when their effectiveness and safety are constantly under scrutiny.
Most dentists have yet to explore PAP because it is a relatively new bleaching agent for teeth whitening. PAP is also difficult to formulate because it is most effective when it's pH level is high. But, the higher its pH level, the faster it degrades and loses effect.

What makes BetterSmile’s PAP+ special?
BetterSmile’s PAP+ Teeth Whitening Strips are infused with PAP , Potassium Citrate, and Hydroxyapatite. Together, these chemical compounds are able to instantly whiten, remineralise, and soothe your teeth in just one treatment.
We simply combined human-centric design and PAP+ to make dentist-grade teeth whitening more convenient and accessible. Our PAP+ Whitening Strips are designed to behave literally like stickers. It’s a plug-and-play, on-the-go solution for busy corporate girlies and stay-at-home daddies all the same. You get the jazz.
It’s modern teeth whitening products made with the only aim to give people a (you guessed it) better smile.

The PAP+ Clinical Trial
We put our PAP+ formula to the test, in a double-blinded, placebo controlled clinical trial.
The PAP+ clinical trial was conducted by a third-party dentist in an external facility. Each participant completed a single ten-minute teeth whitening treatment of a “novel whitening formula” in non-branded packaging. 50% of participants received a placebo, with the other 50% receiving the PAP+ formulation.
Before and after treatment, participants were evaluated for tooth shade, and level of sensitivity. Increases to tooth shade were measured in-person using the VITA Bleached Guide, and digitally through high resolution photographs, taken in controlled lighting conditions.

After a single 10-minute treatment...
- 100% of participants achieved instant results
- 61.9% of participants improved by 3+ shades
- 0% of participants experienced sensitivity
- Average result of 3.4 shades improvement
- Maximum result of 8 shades improvement
About the PAP+ clinical trial
The PAP+ clinical trial was conducted by a third-party dentist in an external facility, and included 44 people between the ages of 19 and 55.
Each participant completed a single ten-minute teeth whitening treatment of a “novel whitening formula” in non-branded packaging.
50% of participants received a placebo, with the other 50% receiving the PAP+ formulation.
The trial was double-blinded, meaning that neither the dentist nor the participants were aware of which treatment they were receiving.
Before and after treatment, participants were evaluated for tooth shade, and level of sensitivity.
Increases to tooth shade were measured in-person using the VITA Bleached Guide, and digitally through high resolution photographs, taken in controlled lighting conditions.

A post-whitening treatment
A nano-tech formula utilising colour theory that neutralises stubborn yellow stains
Ever heard of colour theory?
Basically, colours on the opposite of the colour wheel cancel each other out. This is why purple is so effective in neutralising yellow hues. Think about purple shampoos! V34 is short for Violet-34, the colour that effectively neutralises the broadest range of yellow hues.
Okay, onto how the V34 Colour Corrector actually works.
The V34 Colour Corrector deposits a thin, semi-transparent layer on your enamel that filters out yellow hues on your tooth surface, creating a visually brighter smile. Using our V34 Colour Corrector is easy. Spread a generous amount on your toothbrush and brush lightly. Keep on for 2 minutes and rinse.
